…gives me a headache. Would the fact that I shunned my planned paperwork for today be the opposite of a creative block? I was going to get up and get right to work organizing the papers for my mother’s tax accountant. Instead I found it easier than ever to get right to work on finishing up some metal clay beads in my studio.
Plan B was to start in on the piles of medical receipts, charitable receipts, assisted living receipts, etc. after lunch, so I would be on my way to getting this task completed and off my mind. I don’t even have to do hard math to figure it out. I just have to organize it to get the figures I need to record.
I like using my computer for the ease of taking photos from my digital camera, looking at them, cropping them, and sorting them. I spend a few hours at night adding to my own blog, checking e-mail, reading other people’s blogs, feeding my creativity. What I do NOT do, and have never been good at doing, is organize receipts and numbers. Excel is something I hope to do at my craft. Computer program? Online banking? Spreadsheets? Eeeek! They all terrify me. Or maybe they bore me. For some it’s an “easier way to do it” but I have yet to come out of my right side shell and embrace the left (dark) side when it comes to keeping track of figures on the computer. I know. Call me a luddite.
Tomorrow, my plan is to get up early and get this little paperwork job done, before I look at the beads I finished and fired today. If I had a digital display on my forehead tomorrow, maybe it would look just like my kiln did this afternoon:
Job finished. And in less than 3 hours.

Oh Barb…I am totally with you on the “left brain” stuff. I have a big drawer full of receipts that are all shapes and sizes just waiting to be put in some sort of organization and order to get the numbers together for the dreaded income tax return.
Each year I promise myself I’ll come up with a better filing system, but my right brain takes over and lulls me to anything, I mean anything other than paper work or filing systems. And, yes, the prospect of computer graph sheets and financial wizard programs gets my head spinning even more. Much rather plod through all the physical receipts as I have done for years…I, too, a luddite, at least in the paperwork department!
Beads are so much more exciting. I love the wonderful organic and playful shapes you are creating. They are beautiful. I see you use clay pots to fire your beads in and what is the medium you use? We’ve always used vermiculite and yours looks different! Can hardly wait to see the finished product!

yay Marly! I am so glad to hear I’m in such good company. I too would rather weed through all of the receipts once a year for the ease of throwing them into a drawer the rest of the time. At least we are keeping those papers in the same spot. My reasoning is that if I know where it is, then I’m already organized. eh?
Those clay saucers last through a few firings, but the larger ones crack sometimes. No worries. The medium is used casting investment powder, from Fred Woell. It is what I learned to use when I took my first class from Fred in the PMC original days. He took the investment used from his lost wax casting flasks, and broke it up into powder. I am actually using some of the same batch he gave me 13 or 14 years years ago. I just have to be careful not to breathe it in (mask). And then when I take pieces out of the kiln I make sure not to let the rinse water go down the sink. I don’t need a plaster plug in there! I wonder if any dry plaster would work? It looks like the only investment Rio sells is in 50 lb boxes. Yikes!
I’m staying firm with not emptying the kiln until I get my mother’s work done…but I have made 3 loaves of walnut raisin sourdough bread. I’m taking a loaf over to Ashley Bryan’s to meet a friend there for lunch….
