Special order

I’m finally getting around to finishing some work I promised a while ago. I love making beads with different designs on each side. They give me a chance to put together a necklace that can be worn two different ways. I textured the beads using silicone molds made from local objects. (On Islesford it doesn’t get much more local than rocks and cedar.)

  1. are your beads asymmetrically drilled so the beads won’t flip?
and what are the black beads….please don’t tell me they’re all matching beach stones that you scavenged from mother ocean!!!!!

Yes. I try to keep the beads from flipping by drilling them asymmetrically. It works pretty well. I could tell you the stones came from the beach, but I would be lying. They are tumbled black glass from The Beadin’ Path in Freeport.
Glass? Did someone say glass? I’ll see you the day after tomorrow!!!!!

  2. Beautiful necklaces! I love the matte finish that the tumbled beach glass provides! And thanks for the tip about drilling holes asymmetrically, which I take to mean just a little up from centre? We’re so excited that you and Holly will have a get-together this weekend. Have a blast with glass! Can hardly wait to hear all about it! Safe travels…hope the weather cooperates! We’re off to shovel our 15 centimeters of snow! (At least that’s not inches!) Enough already, eh?

Correct as usual Ms. Marly! Yes, I did drill the holes just up from center. I hope your snow is light and fluffy; easily shoveled. Enough already. But…what can you do? Not much I know. That’s life, eh?
I wish you and Angie were going to be right there in Rockland with us.

  4. P.S. Many thanks for the “boredom-busting” ideas you posted for me, and especially for the idea of videotaping the Opening Day ceremony. I was so busy being mad about not going that I hadn’t thought of a solution. Yours was there, just when I needed it most.

Oh Nancy. I feel so bad for you and for how hard this recovery must be especially having to miss out on the things that your kids are involved in. I imagine all of your friends want so much to help you out, and feel so helpless when they can’t just make all the frustration, worry and pain go away. I’m glad I could think of something that could help with the Opening Day ceremony. I can’t believe Peyton has to wear a Yankees uniform!! WTF? Well, I know he still is a member of the Red Sox Nation!

Thanks Sue! I need to photograph some earrings today. I used some of the head pins I bought from you. They are great!
Nothing like a cheap plastic toy for a prop, ha ha!
