Time correction:

Mom and I are in Brunswick at Thornton Oaks. We had a great dinner, caught up with some of her old friends from when she lived here, and ran into more friends after that.

The show tomorrow is from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Different hours than I put in the previous post. Hope to see you in Brunswick!

Some necklaces and their “close ups”

Here’s a sample of some of the necklaces I’ll have with me at my next show in Brunswick, Maine. If you are in the area on Saturday, Nov. 21, stop on by at Thornton Oaks between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. I’m taking a road trip with my Mom, so she can see some of her old friends.

3 days – no work

Appointments on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday took me off the island, and away from the studio. My consolation prize today was the sky as I drove home from Bar Harbor, and the sunset when I got back on the island. I’m really looking forward to a full day of work tomorrow. Hadar’s new book just arrived in today’s mail. Can’t wait to take a look!

Vintage and contemporary Lucite

When I saw these cool beads at the Beadin’ Path, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them!

I’ll be including these frosty flowers in my next show at Thornton Oaks in Brunswick, Maine. (Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

On the way home…

…I stopped at the bead store in Freeport. I can never pass up a visit to the “Beadin’ Path.” It’s just part of living on a tiny island, that I order most of my supplies on-line. But yesterday I got into Freeport 45 minutes before the bead store closed. Plenty of time to find some new pieces to mix with new silver work. If you are traveling through Maine, a stop at the Beadin’ Path is a must. If you can’t make it, then a visit to their Web site is the next best thing.

Highlights of the High Line

I was in New York City yesterday with my friend Susie. We walked around the Meatpacking District and saw the newest park in NYC, the High Line. (We also watched a taping of “Iron Chef America,”  (no cameras allowed) went to dinner at Pastis, and then went to Broadway to see the musical, “Fela!”  An amazing show and an amazing time in the city.)

The High Line was originally constructed in the 1930s, to lift dangerous freight trains off Manhattan’s streets.  Located on Manhattan’s West Side, section 1 of the High Line is a public park, owned by the City of New York.  It runs from Gansevoort Street  to 20th Street  between 10th & 11th Avenues.

There were even long wooden benches where two weary friends could rest their tired dogs.

Then into Chelsea Market,  in the old Nabisco building.

Then to the Italian market where I found my favorite (very hard to find in Maine) mushroom bouillon!

Today I am on the road headed back to Maine. It has been a great trip.

Time’s up!

IMGP0416

I leave Islesford on the 8:15 boat tomorrow. (Thursday) The trunk show at Val Storm’s house in Greenwich is SATURDAY!  While I wish I had found time to make some bracelets, I have a good collection of earrings and necklaces. And for those of you who have a hard time finding clip-0n earrings, I’ll have this selection with me:

Glass leaves + silver leaves

With an assortment of glass leaf beads, I decided to make drops with them and see what they would look like strung together to hang in groups from a necklace. They needed some silver as a compliment, so I picked  bunchberry leaves to use for texture on some silver leaf dangles. Here’s the result:

I love beads

Whether I make them myself out of silver or bronze, or drill rocks from the beach nearby, or find vintage glass beads or funky stone beads, I just love being surrounded by them. Sometimes its hard to finish one piece, because a different jar of beads has caught my eye and I’m already thinking about what I want to make next, with those.

(I have had a lot of bead exposure getting ready for the show at Val’s in Greenwich.  It’s been great!)
